Bowen on the Peak Performance Podcast: The Ultimate Kitesurfing Adventure

I spoke with Sam Guest at Tantrum Kitesurf / Peak Performance the other day about my on-the-water Kitesurfing Adventure Skills program (Dec 1-8). It was such a pleasure to meet and speak with Sam, he really gets it and we had a great time talking about kitesurfing as an adventure sport, the long distance experience, sport as exercise/diversion/play/tool and as a way of being in the world, flow, taking responsibility for your own experience, taking kiting more seriously as a sport, preparation as the foundation for adventure and creativity, the balance between achievability and challenge, goal setting, and how to build a life outside full of serious fun.

Sam digs the project so much, he said that he thinks Kitesurfing Adventure Skills is the coolest thing to happen in kitesurfing in the last 10 years! I just listened to the interview again, and I’m pretty psyched!

Have a listen and be sure to subscribe to @tantrumkitesurf to catch the latest from Sam as he explores his own journey from kitesurfing to the broader world of adventure and peak performance.

Battery Adventure Club full moon kayaking

I became a Creative/Athlete in Residence at the Battery in 2018, and one of my first projects has been to launch the Battery Adventure Club with fellow Battery CiR and adventurer Noah Rainey. After a meetup at the Battery in May, we held our first group event on June 26, 2018 right here in Sausalito with a group of 20+ Battery members and guests kayaking under the full moon in Richardson Bay.

Bowen on the Kitesurf365 podcast

I’ve been developing a new on-the-water program called Kitesurfing Adventure Skills, and Adrian Kerr over at Kitesurf365 was kind enough to have me on his podcast the other day for an interview about adventure kiting, what I mean by adventure skills, and much more. “Downwind in the Philippines” TV series

In March of 2017 I was invited to the Philippines to be one of the principal athletes in a kitesurfing travel documentary series for Canal OFF called Downwind nas Filipinas (Downwind in the Philippines). The series was aired in Brazil starting in May/June of 2018.

Bowen on the Jeff Schlarb podcast

Fellow Battery member, podcaster and top-notch interior designer Jeff Schlarb called me out of the blue and invited me in for an interview on his show. I’m very grateful for unexpected invitations like this, and I admire what Jeff is doing a lot.

Ep. 28: Bowen Dwelle

Jeff sees his podcast as ‘an opportunity to have interesting conversations,’ and it certainly was. Thanks for the invitation, Jeff. It takes courage to open your door so widely — well done. I hope you all enjoy our conversation, and do check out the other episodes of his show, including SF supervisor Scott Wiener, chef Tyler Florence, choreographer Alonzo King, and restauranteur Anna Weinberg, among many others!

Multi-sport athlete panel at the Battery

In October 2017 I hosted a panel discussion at the Battery with two of my favorite multi-sport athletes. We talked about what it means to be an athlete, creativity and sport, and began a conversation about bringing skills from one sport to another.

Daniela Moroz, two-time world-champion kiteboard racer, winner of the Rolex Yachtswoman of the Year in 2015 at age 15.

Simon Dominguez, marathon open water swimmer and subject of this film about his swim from the Golden Gate to the Farallones.

Here Be Dragons podcast on the long distance experience

Soon after we released the SurfinSemFim kitesurfing documentary about long distance kiting in Brazil, I was interviewed on the fantastic Here Be Dragons kitesurfing podcast. On his show, Bjoern digs up the details on some of the most interesting kite destinations around the world, and I’ve learned a lot listening to his episodes about South Africa and Chile, just to name a couple of them.

He asked me to be on the show to talk about my long-distance kitesurfing experiences in Brazil with Surfin Sem Fim. We did a trans-Atlantic simul-cast and worked our way through the 600km itinerary that we captured in the film, talking about the landscape, the spots, the kiting, and the immersive experience of traveling by kite day-after-day down the coast of Brazil.

Thanks to Surfin Sem Fim, Boardriding Maui, Andre Penna, Marco Dalpozzo, Bill Plautz and the pioneers like Louis Tapper for the inspiration.

Adventure Sports Podcast on long distance kitesurfing

Soon after we released the SurfinSemFim kitesurfing documentary about long distance kiting in Brazil, I was interviewed on Adventure Sports Podcast, a unique show that focuses on all sorts of adventure sports. I’m grateful for the opportunity to share my experiences and spread the word about adventure kiting!

Starting with the beginner questions about what kitesurfing is and how it works, at about 44:30 we move on to talk about my longdistance kitesurfing experience in Brazil and also about the deep connection between athletics and intuition and how being active in nature – especially over the course of a long athletic journey – can be a powerful way to train your intuition.

Thanks to Surfin Sem Fim, Boardriding Maui, Andre Penna, Marco Dalpozzo, Bill Plautz and the #longdistance pioneers like Louis Tapper for the inspiration.
