San Francisco to Muir Beach with the Battery Adventure Club

As part of my role as a Creative in Residence at the Battery, I proposed and co-founded the  Battery Adventure Club, a club-within-the-club for Battery members who want more adventure in their lives. For our second event I planned a guided walk from the Battery to the Pelican Inn in Muir Beach.

I’ve done several long walks in this area lately, inspired by the readily accessible landscape and a story I heard of San Francisco family’s tradition of walking from the City to Inverness for Thanksgiving. We humans evolved to walk, and while most of us don’t regularly walk anything like this distance of nearly 17 miles (27km), we are literally built for it and it’s well within the abilities of any healthy person.

The event was organized as an active coaching session, with both group and individual coaching by myself and my co-facilitator Michael Lipson. We had a great turnout and with a very enthusiastic group of participants we set off from the Battery about 1:30pm and arrived just in time for dinner at the Pelican at about 8:30pm.
