IT CAN BE WAY MORE FUN THAN YOU THINK

Life is full of awkward moments. Especially when it comes to interacting with new people…and super-especially for people we might be attracted to. (Uh…high-school anyone?) Our brain freezes, we turn away, or we distract and dull ourselves with things like small talk, gadgets, drugs, and alcohol.

And yet, when we think back, it’s often those awkward moments that matter most. If someone were to ask you: how did you meet your partner? your lover? your best friend? — quite likely it began with an awkward moment. As with so many other things in life, we get good at what we do. Instead of turning away, we can consciously turn towards awkward moments so as to experience the intensity of connection that lies on the other side. Instead of fighting or fleeing that awkward moment, we can learn to stay and play.

Join meditation teacher and improv actor James Brown and freedom coach and adventure athlete Bowen Dwelle for this dynamic social event where we’ll share some simple and effective ways to turn those awkward moments into some of the best moments of your life. As we dive in and practice together we’ll all have the opportunity to create some deeper, more real, more memorable—and usually, more hilarious—connections, learning some very powerful skills while we have a great time together.

And because we want to make friends with awkwardness as consciously as possible, we strongly suggest enjoying the evening in an unaltered state. We’ll be serving a special alcohol-free cocktail along with Surreal Brewing’s outstanding non-alcoholic craft beer. Of course, you’re free to choose your own adventure.

That Awkward Moment — Wednesday, January 29, 6-8pm at the Battery. Battery Members can register here. If you’d like to join and you’re not a Battery Member, contact me and I’ll put you on the list!
